Swiss Airlines Pet in hold (more than 8kgs)

The pet policy is similar to pet in cabin travel policy. For pet in hold the temperature for pet travel is also ideal and pleasant for international travel. Passengers are restricted for visiting their pets while in hold on board Passengers are advised to complete their check in at least two hours before their flight departure.

  2. The pet must be healthy, well fed for travel and should easily fit in the carrier.

Swiss Airlines Pet in Cabin

Swiss Airlines Pet policy allows you to travel in cabin with your pet underneath your seat in front of you. It’s very cheap and easy and generally recommended is that your pet has to meet the very specific restrictions. Your pet carrier can’t weigh more than 20 pounds and then the second in dimensions. The size of your pet carrier in cabin and the size of your pet itself will have to meet the airlines restrictions. You can travel with a small dog and cat weighing up to 8kgs (including the pet carrier) in the cabin. While larger dogs (Trained dogs) can travel only if they fit in front of the passenger’s seat.
Swiss Airlines Pet in cabin Policy:

  1. The pet carrier must be clean, escape and leak proof and scratch proof. The container size should not exceed 118 cm- 55 x 40 x 23 cm.
  2. The pet must remain inside the carrier throughout the journey and the carrier must be large enough so that the pet can freely move without any difficulties.
  3. Pet must be well tamed, disciplined and clean, if the pet has a bad odour then the pet might not be able to travel.

Guidelines for Swiss Airlines Pet Carriers

According to the IATA (International Aviation Authority) regulations:

  1. The pet carrier should be adequate for the animal to sit and stand comfortably
  2. The pet carrier should contain the IATA tag for live animals
  3. The container must be air conditioned and must be suitable to contain both cats and dogs
  4. The pet carrier must be large enough for the pet to sit, stand and lie down comfortably
  5. The container must remain intact, scratch free and free from any uneven surface.
  6. The container must be Water proof, securely screwed, sturdy, clean, lockable doors and properly ventilated on both sides.
  7. If there are wheels attached to the container then they must be removable and fixable
  8. The carrier must be ventilated on three sides and four sides for international travel
  9. Food and water should be attached at one end of the transport carrier. They should be adjustable with the flight cabins and easy to handle for the airlines staff as well.

Documents / Certificates required for pet travel with Swiss Airlines

  1. Rabies vaccination certificate if the pet is travelling from a high risk to a low risk country
  2. Vaccination certificate specifying details about the pet-age, sex, breed, weight
  3. An up to date EU pet passport
  4. Commercial health certificate if they are travelling to Switzerland  (signed and accredited by a veterinarian )

Note that pet with incomplete or missing Documents / Certificates can be kept for quarantine or not allowed for travel with Swiss Airlines.   1. As per the ESA requirements Swiss Airlines does not travel for Emotional Support Animals. However, registered, service and trained animals are accepted for travel in the cabin without any charges.

  1. At the airport your pet will be checked by the customs if you fly to Switzerland.
  2. Your pet should be able to meet the entry requirements of the country/ Border Veterinary Service
